Mathare Constituency

Mathare Constituency is one of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi County No 47 and among the 290 constituencies in Kenya.

It was created prior to the 2013 general election, when Kasarani Constituency was split up to form four constituencies: Kasarani, Roysambu, Ruaraka, and Mathare Constituencies.

The constituency covers an area of approximately 3.00 km2.The constituency borders Kiambu Constituency to the North, Kasarani Constituency to the East, Eastleigh portion of Kamkunji Constituency to the South and Pangani portion of Starehe Constituency to the West and South West.
The constituency comprises of informal settlement households mainly in Mabatini and Hospital wards. A portion of the highly populated Nairobi River transverses the entire constituency from East and to West causing environmental hazards to the constituents especially during the rainy season.

The constituency is divided into 6 administrative wards namely: Hospital, Mabatini, Huruma, Ngei, Mlango Kubwa and Kiamaiko Wards. The constituency has 34 administrative villages.
